UPDATE: New version of iPhone Visio stencil 2.0 is available, 50+ new UI controls!
Almost everybody of UX, Interaction, Graphics or Web Designers knows Stencil Kit from Yahoo. The problem is that Yahoo stencils are outdated and they are in wrong format for Visio. They are in format XML Drawing (*.vdx) which cannot be used as stencil. So, the result is that stencils are not usable.
So I decided to improve current stencil for iPhone and convert it to appropriate format, Stencil (*.vss). I added new elements – iPhone 4, loading popup, note, clear text, black version of Safari, I improved font size and weight, visual improvements of buttons etc. I send this improved version to Yahoo, so I hope that they will update their stencils. It should be fixed now, the links now lead to Megaupload. Is something what do you want to be in next version 1.2?
This looks wonderful, but yes, I was not able to download it either.

Hi, could you please upload in another location since megaupload is blocked?
Thank you very much!
Yes please, the same question from me? Thanks!
Thanks for your support. It should be fixed now, the links now lead to my Dropbox. Can I ask on which project do you want to use it?
Of course!
I’m learning iOS development now and there is no defined project yet but this will help a lot with ideas.
Thank you very much!
Updated, it should be fixed now š Can I ask on which project do you want to use it?
Yes, I see it works now, thank you! Nothing special, my wife asked me to enable her to play with iPhone design, she has some ideas, but trust me I wasn’t asking her in details, since it can spend me a lot of time š
nice, but it’d be nicer if it had SMS conversation built into it some way
Thanks for your feedback and tip how to improve it š
I was able to download and access file from desktop but it was crashing Visio (2010). When I went to move the file into Visio stencil directory, I got a message saying I need admin rights. Is this where the file should reside to prevent crashing and/or in general? If yes, it is normal that I should need admin rights to access it? Please advise ASAP. Thanks!
No, you don’t need admin rights. This stencil was created in Visio 2010, so it should work in Visio 2010. There are three ways how to open stencil.
1. double-click vss file and Visio should open. The Visio is associated with this file type.
2. a) Open any new or existing drawing in Visio 2010.
b) When you first start Visio, the Shapes box is hidden to leave more room for shapes. To open this box, on the Home tab, click the gray arrow in the left pane.
c) In the Shapes box, click More Shapes, point to My Shapes, and then click the name of the stencil you downloaded.
d) Drag and drop shapes to the canvas to create your diagram.
3. Change path to directory where your stencil (vss file) is located. This can be changed in Options on Home tab.
Did it help to you?
Do you have another place to download this excellent looking stencil? Apparently the previous 2 links are dead.
I’m sorry but I don’t know which links do you think, updated links in blog post work:

Thanks š Now I’m working on version 2.0 which will be focused on maps š
great work, thank you
Thanks. Can I ask on which project do you plan to use it? š
Great job!
I found this online: http://vistencils.com/. Are your templates vector shapes or images?
Hi Michel,
thanks š This version 1.1 is mix of vector shapes and images. The next release will contain almost all components as vector shapes.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!
You’re welcome š
thank very much! Very nice stencils!
Thanks š
Thanks for the awesome set, Edains.
Are these stencils vector shapes or images? Are they editable in Visio?
I found your stencils along with the ones at guitoolkits (http://guitoolkits.com/visio-gui-bundle/) and I am trying to find out the differences.
Thanks again for your work!
These are great! Thanks so much for sharing!
I noticed that some of the elements (e.g. “Safari Blue”) have the shadow property set in Visio 2013, which makes them show up with an ugly drop shadow. Do you know if there’s an easy way to disable them globally or does the stencil need to be updated?
Hi Zach, I hope it will be useful for you š I’m sorry, but I don’t know easy way how to change this globally š¦
